I had the honor of serving as the Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner for ANC 8A07 from 2019 to 2021. Much of that district is now part of ANC 8B06, with the addition of Fort Stanton. During my term, I worked faithfully alongside my fellow commissioners to help move forward many of the commercial and residential projects that have taken place in Anacostia over the last 7 years. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and proud of the impact we made together.
At the end of my term, I chose not to seek reelection for personal reasons. I believed life was leading me away from Washington, D.C. Instead, life brought an unexpected challenge. In September 2021, I was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer.
Walking through cancer was one of the hardest journeys of my life. Five years later, I finally feel like I am reaching the other side. That experience changed me, but it did not change my heart for service. My commitment to this community never wavered.
I still want to see safe, clean streets. I still believe we deserve thoughtful development, strong neighborhood partnerships, and city services that work for every resident. That is why I decided to run again.
Our community has made progress over the past five years, but there is still work to do. I bring experience, integrity, and a proven record of getting things done. Most importantly, I bring hope.
Hope with me as we work together to build a safer, stronger, and more connected ANC 8B06.
